The Organizations:

OCS is a multi-service non-profit organization, which provides social services, primarily, in Surrey, Delta, Langley and White Rock, British Columbia. We currently operate over 80 programs and     projects, employ approximately 600 individuals and as many as 300 volunteers. Habitat Housing (HH) is a non-profit organization, which provides social housing services and resources that meet the needs of the community.

Our commitment to empowering and supporting individuals and families and promoting community health has resulted in delivery of successful services and partnerships for approximately 50 years.

 

All of our services meet or exceed applicable municipal, provincial, federal regulations. OCS is accredited by the Council on Accreditation, based in New York City. The Role:

 

We have an immediate need for a highly  competent CPA, who brings knowledge and experience as a Senior Finance Manager of sizable, complex organizations. The Senior Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the financial management of OCS and HH, which have combined assets of approximately $72.5 million and combined revenues of approximately $55.6 million. OCS and HH are funded from sources including the Province of British Columbia, the Federal Government, local Governments, foundations, businesses and local citizens. This is a pivotal role for OCS, and we are looking for a truly exceptional individual, who shares the passion and dedication of our committed Team.

The Director of Accounting is a newly created position that will report to the Chief Financial Officer. The prime responsibilities of the Director of Accounting will be financial management, financial reporting and managing the accounting team.

 

Attributes we are seeking in our Director of Accounting:

 

• Minimum of five years’ experience as a financial manager in complex organizations with multiple business units
• Risk management experience – possesses a thorough understanding of the organization’s risk profile, in order to develop and take ownership of risk management and mitigation plans for the Society
• Previous people management experience with the ability to lead and inspire others
• Ability to monitor budgetary compliance and provide variance analysis on a regular basis to the Executive Management Team and Board members
• Knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles and standards
• Diversity of thought, which embraces and promotes inclusion in all relationships
• Independent thinker – able to challenge groups to think beyond status quo;
• Warm-hearted, team-oriented, adaptable and inclusive personality
• Exceptional communicator, who is able to present and relate to people at all levels and diversity of  backgrounds
• Excellent negotiation, and interpersonal skills, to work effectively with the organization’s Executive Team, Board Members,  employees, funders, service providers, and other stakeholders.
• Strong ability to communicate complex financial issues to Executive team and Board members, in support of strategic plans and goals
• Ability to produce concise, professional written documents, reports tailored to recipient audiences.
• Strong technological skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Sage 300
• Solid knowledge of project management techniques, tools and procedures.
• Strong analytical, research, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

• Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector search, preceding their start date
